There are many things that stress us out in life, but some are so small and seemingly unimportant that you may not realize they are causing you distress. There are so many things that we cannot change, paying bills, taking care of kids.. the list goes on. BUT on the positive side there are many things that we can control and we can simplify in order to reduce stress.
When we’re in the moment it’s hard to see what we can change to help ourselves. Here are 3 ideas that are proven stress busters!
Making a list is one of the best things you can do to simplify, organize and consolidate your life. Making lists also lowers stress because you are physically organizing your thoughts. This can be any kind of list; To Dos, worries, dreams, ideas, grateful lists. The things you write down are your priorities – once you write them down don’t worry about anything else. Start working on only these things on your list.
Think of all the things your life that you have commitments to this week; find the ONE that is stressing you out the most and just say NO. Maybe you’re on a committee, a team or a volunteer and you really don’t want to be. Drop the commitment that is not mandatory or a necessity that you really don’t like doing. Take action by telling the person in charge that you simply don’t have the time. You’ll feel much better knowing that you have free time.
Clutter can really stress out our mind space. Take one hour and clear out your work space wherever that may be, your desk at work, the kitchen table, the car, or even your email inbox. Not only will you feel amazing that you’ve completed a nagging task but also you’ll get more productive work done!
Ultimately, taking 5 minutes a day to organize and simplify can really help in reducing a huge amount of stress. Go out find that one thing and take action on it!
